This pre-season friendly, the team's first ever game together, proved a rousing success on a balmy summer's evening in Howden. Ross Sampher started in goal with Aiden Coleman having just joined the club but it was Ben Magee (pictured) who quickly stamped his authority on proceedings.
Ben eventually scored five goals, with Sean Allan and Robbie Semple adding one apiece. Ross swapped the goalmouth for the penalty area to get on the scoresheet during the second half, allowing Aiden to make his debut on a truly memorable evening and one everyone involved with the team had waited a long time for.

Another three goals from Ben Magee and two from Robbie Semple were only marginally outshone by an outstanding defensive display from Rayaan Sharif (pictured), who was deservedly named man of the match.
Mid Calder could count themselves unfortunate not to finish with more goals, for Ross Sampher was in defiant form whenever the ball entered his penalty area.

Ben Magee again helped himself to a brace, Robbie Semple's prolific streak continued and Sean Allan completed the goalscoring after coming on as substitute.
This was also Stuart Mackay's first game of the season after returning from holiday and he gave an assured display in goal in Ross Sampher's absence.

A midweek game in relentless rain at Bankton East made for awkward conditions for the players. This match was postponed from the previous Saturday due to inclement weather but, once underway, it was familiar names who rose to the fore for the home side.
Five goals from the outstanding Ben Magee were complemented by Robbie Semple's double and another strike from Ross Sampher, who was quickly transforming himself from goalkeeper into an accomplished midfielder.
At the back, it became apparent that Lewis Miller (pictured) was progressing into one of the league's most assured and reliable defenders.

Lee in particular had an excellent game and was delighted to score his first goal in a maroon shirt to round off an impressive week for the squad.

After Ross Sampher's equaliser, Zack (pictured) scored an opportunistic debut goal from six yards before Ross converted the third with a fine finish.
Whitburn mounted a late onslaught and came close to securing a draw. In fact it took the best efforts of both goalkeeper and defence to keep them at bay until full-time.

Sometimes football can be cruel, as Livingston Hearts discovered in surrendering a 2-0 interval advantage against Broxburn Athletic Colts at Bankton East.
Goals from Ross Sampher and Zack Flockhart appeared to give their side a relatively comfortable cushion but that lead was promptly erased in the second half as Broxburn stormed back with four well constructed goals.
The visitors showed a penchant for attacking football down the flanks and ended the match the stronger side, their constant attacks knocking the stuffing out of the hosts.

Zack Flockhart, playing in midfield, put the visitors 1-0 ahead early in the match, a lead they maintained through to the interval despite some sustained pressure from Fauldhouse.
Ben Magee climbed off the substitutes' bench at half-time to have a telling influence on the game. He scored a clinical hat-trick and may have managed more, but in the end the squad returned to Livingston sporting smiles of satisfaction.
No-one was more pleased than goalkeeper Aiden Coleman (pictured), who recorded his first clean sheet since joining the club.

Thistle, however, were determined to have a say in proceedings and mounted a stirring second-half fightback urged on by their enthusiastic group of supporters. They came within a whisker of an equaliser and returned to Craigshill with enormous credit.

Robbie Semple scored his eighth goal of the season and Stuart Mackay (pictured) lashed his first ever goal for the club to ensure a 2-0 interval advantage.
The second half brought doubles for man-of-the-match Dylan Anderson and his strike partner Zack Flockhart, plus a goal from the energetic Ross Sampher.

Livingston BC's visit to Bankton East was always going to be keenly awaited and, given the geographical closeness enjoyed by both clubs, this match was billed as a local derby.
Livingston Hearts began in determined fashion and Zack Flockhart continued his goal-a-game ratio with the opening goal. This set the tone for an engrossing encounter.
In a game that ebbed and flowed, the commitment of all boys involved was a joy to watch and the match, in truth, could have gone either way.
Two goals from Ross Sampher (pictured) and a driven finish from Ben Magee completed the hosts' scoring and, although Livingston BC scored late on, Livingston Hearts' defensive resolve was clear for all to see as they closed out the match and the first half of season 2008/09.

Hitting the ground running came naturally in East Calder as the team shrugged aside blustery overhead conditions to deliver an impressive display. Striker Dylan Anderson (pictured) scored the first goal which opened the floodgates for hat-tricks by Ben Magee and Zack Flockhart.
In defence, Stuart Mckay was in imperious form and even managed to get his own name on the scoresheet during the first half. Dylan, after some brief respite on the touchline, came off the bench to score again late in the game, augmenting Robbie Semple's double as Livingston Hearts began their preparations for the league restart in convincing fashion.

Livingston Hearts had to recover from losing the first goal in this friendly and, in truth, took some time to find their rhythm. However, once in full flow, they were difficult to stop.
The performance of Robbie Semple (pictured) stood out alongside that of Ben Magee, the pair supplying seven of their side's 11 goals in total.
Other strikes arrived from the predatory Zack Flockhart and Ross Sampher, the latter having come on as a half-time substitute.

Despite the best efforts of everyone at Livingston Hearts, Linlithgow Falcons edged a close encounter at Bankton East with some clinical second-half finishing.
Ben Magee delivered a man-of-the-match display for the hosts and scored an impressive hat-trick, while Robbie Semple and Ross Sampher were the other goalscorers as the league season resumed on a chilly March morning.
Although Livingston Hearts held a 3-1 lead at one stage - and struck the frame of the opposition goal on no less than five occasions - they could not keep the Linlithgow forward line at bay after the interval and succumbed to a narrow defeat.

An inspired second-half display at Linlithgow brought just rewards for Livingston Hearts against a spirited Linlithgow Hawks side. It also returned the visitors to winning ways following their opening day defeat.
Robbie Semple converted from close range midway through the first half after the home goalkeeper had parried Ben Magee's powerful shot. Linlithgow then missed a penalty kick before scrambling an equaliser seconds before the interval.
Livingston Hearts increased the pace after the break and moved 2-1 in front when Ben's dipping shot arced into the net. Zack Flockhart displayed an exquisite piece of ball control to take down Ben's cross at the back post and slot home the third. Ben poked home the fourth following a determined run and Zack rounded off the scoring with the fifth.
Special mention is due to deputy goalkeeper Ross Sampher for a commendable performance, and to defenders Rayaan Sharif and Lewis Miller (pictured), who played one of their finest games together for the club.

Some matches must be filed under "bad day at the office" and this one certainly fell into that category from a Livingston Hearts perspective. An impressive Broxburn Colts side overcame their out-of-sorts hosts with some impressive passing and finishing at Bankton East.
The visitors opened the scoring early in the match but Zack Flockhart equalised from close range followed some tenacious and skilful build-up work by Ben Magee. Another two Broxburn strikes ensured Livingston Hearts reached the interval facing a tough task in the second half.
They resumed play in spirited fashion and Ross Sampher and Zack combined for Ross to bring the score back to 3-2 with a controlled finish inside the penalty area. At that point the home side looked capable of rallying, but Broxburn increased the pace with three further goals before full-time.

Little went right for Livingston Hearts in this fixture with Craighsill showing more desire in every department on a windy Saturday morning at Riverside Primary.
Playing down the slope and with the wind at their backs in the first half, the visitors failed to take command and retreated at half-time facing a 3-1 deficit. Dylan Anderson's through pass had briefly allowed Robbie Semple to equalise for Livingston Hearts, but this deterred the hosts only momentarily.
Stuart Mckay (pictured) looked sound in defence but that could not prevent Craigshill compounding their advantage in the second half to conclude a convincing all-round display.

After the torrid time endured by the team against Craigshill, there was a definite sense of purpose about the squad as they took the field in blustery Whitburn.
Both sets of players overcame driving rain and a fierce wind to provide a thoroughly enjoyable match which ended all-square, a testament to the ability on show.
A tight first-half saw the scoreline remain blank at the interval but Livingston Hearts played a more expansive game in the second half and were enjoying a period of concerted pressure. They then lost goalkeeper Aiden Coleman with Dylan Anderson stepping up to take his place.
A looping shot gave Whitburn the lead shortly after but the irrepressible Ben Magee drove a low ball into the corner of the goal for the equaliser. From Ben's corner moments later, the visitors moved ahead when the ball was deflected into the Whitburn net by a home defender.
That goal looked like being decisive until the referee awarded a penalty for hand ball in the final minute. The ball was dispatched beyond Dylan and the game ended even.

A slow start on a mild spring evening at Bankton East almost cost Livingston Hearts dearly as two quick-fire goals from Mid Calder saw them cruise into a comfortable-looking 2-0 lead.
A quick defensive reshuffle helped the hosts regain composure and take control of midfield, however. From Ben Magee's cross, Zack Flockhart pulled a goal back shortly before the interval.
Aiden Coleman, who had begun the match as substitute, took over from Ross Sampher (pictured) in goal and allowed Ross to take up his familiar midfield role for the second half.
He was to have an oustanding game, driving forward at every opportunity and helping Zack create the equalising goal for Ben.
At that stage Mid Calder were trying commendably to fend off attacks from the home side. It was to the disbelief of everyone connected with Livingston Hearts that Zack was denied a penalty midway through the second half after having his legs taken from him inside the penalty area. The referee allowed play to continue despite some vehement protests from the home touchline.
The pressure continued but, despite chances for both Ross and Dylan Anderson, the match concluded in a draw. Considering they had been 2-0 down, Livingston Hearts deserved credit for what was a monumental effort.

An inspired performance laced with passion and attractive passing football did not yield just desserts for Livingston Hearts against Armadale Sports Club.
Having lost the opening goal inside three minutes - a powerful volley which screamed past Aiden Coleman into the net - the rally from the home side was both forceful and alluring on the eye.
Ben Magee lashed the equaliser into the roof of the net before Zack Flockhart fastened on to a through pass to finish low beyond the Armadale goalkeeper. At half-time, Livingston Hearts were far from flattered by their 2-1 advantage and this was extended when the tenacious Ross Sampher forced his way through a gathering of players to prod home his side's third goal.
Armadale, however, were still to have their say. Their imposing No.8, introduced at half-time, became an increasing danger by dint of his lofted balls into the penalty area. These caused endless defensive problems for the home side and, although Aiden was able to stop the ball initially, slow reactions allowed the Armadale midfield and forwards arriving to score three times in succession.
Defeat was difficult to digest for the Livingston Hearts players, however they departed Bankton East with heads held high after one of their finest overall displays. In truth, their efforts deserved better.

Another outstanding effort, another hard luck story for Livingston Hearts as a recurring theme emerged from this match against Bathgate Vale Pumas.
An eagerly anticipated fixture ensured motivation was little problem for the hosts who more than matched their opponents throughout the game. Having fallen 1-0 behind in the first half, the post-interval rally saw Ben Magee equalise with a stupefying strike direct from a corner kick.
Robbie Semple forced the second goal under the Bathgate goalkeeper moments later, and at that stage Livingston Hearts were in command against one of the region's best sides.
Bathgate were not for accepting their fate without a fight however. Although defied time and again by the outstanding Aiden Coleman (pictured) in goal, two momentary lapses in concentration late in the game provided chances which were competently dispatched.
A narrow defeat was tough on the home side whose recent displays have been nothing short of inspiring. Bathgate's spirit was only to be admired following a hard-fought encounter.
Nonetheless, the trend of letting leads slip is one which the entire Livingston Hearts squad will be keen to address.

Just rewards finally arrived for Livingston Hearts on Sunday with a convincing performance and result against Linlithgow Eagles.
From the outset, the visitors were tenacious and courageous in their approach and seemed determined that the wrongs of recent weeks would not repeat themselves.
A Ben Magee hat-trick and a strike from man-of-the-match Zack Flockhart (pictured) ensured a 4-1 interval advantage, but there remained the possibility of a Linlithgow fightback if any complacency took hold of Livingston Hearts.
This was not the case and the second half brought another two well-taken goals for Zack with only one conceded at the other end, where the defence grew in confidence.
The visitors tired near the end with only seven players in the matchday squad but headed home content that their efforts had yielded a morale-boosting victory.

Starting with only six players did not hinder Livingston Hearts and, despite losing the opening goal, they moved 2-1 ahead through goals from Ross Sampher and Zack Flockhart.
Ross scored the equaliser with a beautifully crafted strike direct from a corner before Zack fastened on to Dylan Anderson's lofted pass for a low finish. Falcons scored with a headed goal direct from a corner and, with Ross missing a penalty near the interval, the first half of an extremely physical match ended 2-2.
Concentration problems arose early in the second period despite Livingston Hearts being restored to their full quota of seven players. The visitors were denied another penalty when Dylan fell in the box, and only seconds later Linlithgow moved in front.
Two more quick-fire goals effectively ended the game as a contest, but there was still time for Dylan to convert Ross' low cross for his side's third goal.

Calm conditions and a well-preened surface set an ideal scene as Linlithgow Hawks arrived at Bankton East to meet Livingston Hearts for the second time this season.
The hosts started purposefully and took the lead with an opportunist's strike from Robbie Semple, who was in fine form throughout the first half. He doubled the advantage before the interval with a composed and accurate finish following excellent build-up work involving Rayaan Sharif (pictured) and Zack Flockhart.
A 2-0 half-time scoreline flattered Livingston Hearts slightly as Linlithgow Hawks ought to have converted at least one of two fine scoring opportunities in the first half. However the hosts increased the pace following the restart.
Ross Sampher headed Ben Magee's cross into the top corner before grabbing his second with a low finish. As ever, Stuart Mckay was eager to inscribe his name on the scoresheet and managed to do so twice before the final whistle. He unleashed a raking drive low into the right corner of the net before meandering into the box and coolly slotting the ball past the Linlithgow goalkeeper.
A momentary lapse had seen the visitors secure a consolation goal direct from a free-kick, but the Livingston Hearts players headed come content with a fine evening's work.
Lewis Miller excelled in both midfield and defence but Rayaan finished the outstanding player afield. His defensive displays have been faultless in recent weeks and earned him the man-of-the-match award.

Livingston Hearts were left hot under the collar in baking temperatures as lack of conentration saw Broxburn Colts finish worthy winners at Stewartfield.
Although Robbie Semple gave the visitors an early lead, Broxburn reversed the scoreline before a surging run from Ben Magee produced an equaliser. A goalkeeping error saw the hosts command a 3-2 advantage at half-time, but Livingston Hearts believed their pressure could reap dividends in the second half.
This did not materialise, for despite two outstanding free-kicks from Ben and a cool chip from Zack Flockhart, several defensive lapses as well as some incisive Broxburn finishing proved overwhelming for the visiting side.

ALTHOUGH Craigshill Thistle finished comfortable winners in the end, this did not reflect what was a creditable Livingston Hearts performance. Without the influential Ben Magee the home players adopted something of a seige mentality against a particularly physical Craigshill side and were unfortunate not to reap better rewards for their efforts.
Robbie Semple opened the scoring with a controlled finish after collecting Zack Flockhart's through pass and homing in on the Craigshill goalkeeper. Holding a 1-0 interval advantage, Livingston Hearts were confident of extending their lead in the second half, however Craigshill had other ideas.
A speculative effort from the edge of the box arced away from goalkeeper Aiden Coleman for the equaliser and a move down the left flank produced Thistle's second goal shortly afterwards. A defensive error and a penalty helped seal Livingston Hearts' fate, although there was time for Ross Sampher to strike an impressive consolation into the top corner.

Livingston Hearts goals: Zack Flockhart (2), Ben Magee, Ross Sampher
Zack Flockhart's looping equaliser only minutes from time secured a draw for Livingston Hearts in an enthralling encounter against Whitburn.
With the game poised at 4-3, Zack collected a bouncing ball midway inside the Whitburn half and turned to lob the visiting goalkeeper for an exquisite finish. It was no more than the hosts deserved although they will have been upset at some of the goals conceded earlier in the match.
Whitburn moved ahead on ten minutes as a throw-in eluded all in maroon before the ball was slotted low beyond Aiden Coleman. However, Zack's close-range finish restored parity following some fine build-up play by man-of-the-match Ben Magee (pictured). Whitburn moved ahead again moments later but Ben's accurate finish from the edge of the penalty area brought the scoreline back to 2-2.
A lofted free-kick was converted by the visitors on the stroke of half-time, the home defenders guilty of being too static at a vital moment. This ensured Livingston Hearts required to overhaul a deficit after the interval which they proved more than capable of doing.
The second half saw the hosts make the early running and a tenacious move by Ross Sampher down the right created a chance which neither Stuart Mckay nor Robbie Semple could convert. With the ball bobbling around the penalty area, Ross promptly arrived on the scene to finish off his own good work.
Whitburn foraged another move down the right and the subsequent cross was turned in from close range, and with time running out Livingston Hearts had to react quickly. Zack's predatory instincts brought a late goal and brought justice for his team's efforts.

This won't be a game Livingston Hearts will wish to remember as a tidy and well organised Mid Calder side came to Bankton East and secured a narrow victory with a first-half goal.
Although the home side's refusal to give up was commendable, Mid Calder reaped their rewards for a fine performance which their hosts simply could not match.
Ben Magee and Rayaan Sharif both performed with determination and confidence for Livingston Hearts, however they could not help source an equaliser despite some sustained pressure during the second half.
With one game remaining until the summer break, hopes were that efforts and concentration would be doubled against Armadale Sports Club in the next fixture.

Livingston Hearts goals: Robbie Semple, Zack Flockhart
The season finished disappointingly as Armadale proved marginally too strong for Livingston Hearts in the final game of an arduous and demanding campaign.
Robbie Semple's speculative strike from distance accorded the hosts a 1-0 advantage early in the match but two quick-fire goals saw Armadale overturn the deficit as well as showcase their finishing prowess.
The visitors scored their third when home players were caught static at a free-kick and a fortuitous fourth followed after the interval before Zack Flockhart gave Livingston Hearts a modicum of hope. Ben Magee, playing his final match for the club, entered the fray as substitute in the second half but could not influence the scoreline.
